Richard Duprey has been given a nine-month suspended sentence and £500 fine for Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH). And his sab group? They're celebrating it.
Richard Duprey, also known as Richard White, was sentenced on was sentenced on 9 January at Craigavon Courthouse to a nine-month suspended sentence and a £500 fine for a vicious assault on a 79-year-old man in August 2024 on New Forge Road, Magheralin.
The details are grim. After an altercation while both parties were walking dogs, Duprey struck the elderly victim, who fell to the ground. But Duprey didn't stop there. He proceeded to kick the man because the victim was still flailing his arms. The 79-year-old was left with a black eye and broken ribs.
The Craigavon Courthouse prosecutor said "The defendant then punched the injured party, causing him to fall down. The defendant then allegedly kicked the injured party while on the ground causing him to roll onto the road.”
Duprey admitted his actions went "beyond self-defence" and pled guilty to a lesser charge of GBH. And the strangest part? His Facebook campaign page, Northern Ireland Says "NO" To Animal Cruelty, posted about it on their page.

A Lenient Sentence
The nine-month suspended sentence means Duprey walked free from court despite seriously injuring an elderly man - a punishment many consider outrageously lenient for such a violent attack. The £500 fine adds insult to injury for a crime that left a 79-year-old with broken ribs and a black eye after being kicked while on the ground.
A History of Violence
Duprey is a notorious hunt saboteur in Northern Ireland with a long history of violent behaviour and intimidation. He runs the Facebook page Northern Ireland Says "NO" To Animal Cruelty, whose previous activities include attempting to block Air Ambulances from receiving donations from hunts.

It comes as no surprise that Duprey was convicted, though the fact he's already back on the streets may raise eyebrows. Sources tell us Duprey is known for terrorising local hunt communities, many of which are made up of families and over-50s who say they live in fear he and his gang might "kill someone."
That fear isn't unfounded. A few years ago, a 19-year-old hunt follower was reportedly beaten viciously by Duprey and associates.
One source told BTM: "He's a trained boxer. His fists are weapons."
Terror Links
Duprey is also reportedly linked to the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP), the political wing of the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA), a proscribed terrorist organisation.
During The Troubles, the INLA was responsible for some of the conflict's deadliest attacks, including the 1982 Droppin Well bombing in Ballykelly, County Londonderry, which killed 17 people, six of them civilians. Today, the group has turned to organised crime. In February 2024, the Belfast Telegraph described the INLA as "a million-pound drugs cartel." In April 2018, multiple members of the terror group were arrested in a major police operation.
Duprey, meanwhile, has been filmed attending an IRSP remembrance parade in Portadown and reading at an INLA grave, both videos posted to Facebook.

Sentenced, Then Set Free
Despite his conviction for a violent assault on an elderly man, Duprey received what many view as a slap on the wrist - a suspended sentence that allows him to continue his activities without consequence. His sab group continues to operate openly, posting updates and rallying support online, while Duprey himself was back harassing hunt attendees at Loughbrickland just days after his court appearance.
