Location: Armagh, Northern Ireland

Affiliation: South Ulster Hunt Sabs; Animal Liberation Front (ALF) Ireland

Richard Duprey is a notorious sab in Northern Ireland, with a reputation for violent behaviour and intimidation.

Duprey is thought to be behind the Facebook campaign page called Northern Ireland Says “NO” To Animal Cruelty, whose activities involve trying to block Air Ambulances from taking donations from hunts.

Links to terror groups

Many readers will find Duprey’s political leanings deeply concerning: he’s reportedly linked to the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP), the political wing of the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA) – a proscribed terrorist group.

The INLA’s activities during The Troubles include the Droppin Well bombing of 1982, which killed 17 people - including six civilians - at a pub in Ballykelly, County Londonderry in one of Northern Ireland’s worst atrocities of the period.

Now, the group has turned its hand to alternative criminal pursuits. In February 2024 the Belfast Telegraph described the INLA as “a million-pound drugs cartel”, while in April 2018 multiple members of the terror group were arrested in a police operation, including three under the terrorism act and one on suspicion of human trafficking and controlled prostitution.

Duprey, meanwhile, has been filmed at an IRSP remembrance parade in Portadown and reading at an INLA grave, both of which were posted to Facebook.

Terrorising hunt supporters

Duprey is known for trying to scare and intimidate his local hunt communities. One hunt, made up mostly of over-50s, say they live in fear he and his gang might “kill someone.” That fear isn’t unfounded. Sources tell us that a few years ago, a 19-year-old hunt follower was viciously beaten by Duprey and pals.

Fast forward to November 2024 when Duprey's intimidating behaviour reportedly landed him in Craigavon Court on a charge of Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm. This time the victim was an elderly man, who was left with a black eye and broken ribs. One source told BTM, “He’s a trained boxer, his fists are weapons.”

Terrifyingly, in February 2022, Duprey and his crew turned up at a hunt supporter’s door, threatening her husband with a gun and telling him to give up hunting. The couple were too terrified to report it, thanks to his INLA ties, but have since turned their house into a fortress. “We shouldn’t have to live in fear of our lives,” said the source.

Duprey also sports a range of tattoos. The ALF dagger is possibly a reference to the Animal Liberation Front, an organisation that was designated a domestic terror group by the FBI in 2005 and whose activities are classified as examples of domestic extremism in the UK.

When he’s not swinging punches or flashing his terrorist links, Duprey enjoys ruining everyone else’s fun. He’s tried to ban hunts from parking at churches and even staged masked protests at a hunt ball.
